Running a Broadband Speed Test |
|
|
A lot of people are now using Broadband Internet for their web surfing
needs. Consumers usually use either, cable Internet, which comes from
your cable company or DSL, which is usually provided by a phone
company. Broadband service usually offers quicker downloads of data,
faster page loads, and an overall faster experience when it comes to
photo and video editing. However, things can sometimes slow down even
with this fast type of service.
The first thing that you should do when your Internet connection slows down is to run a broadband speed test on your connection. You can call your Internet provider to run a broadband speed test on your computer while you wait. This process usually last for a few minutes, and they can tell you rather quickly if the problem is on their end or yours.
You can also visit you Internet provider’s website, if you can still get online and have them run the broadband speed test for you. The results of the speed test will usually be displayed right there on your computer screen.
The problem may be with your connection if your Internet provider found nothing wrong on their end after they have run a broadband speed test. Maybe a wire or connector has come loose, and you may have to reset your modem. Your service may also become painfully slow because the memory on your modem is full. Your connection will often return to normal speed once you empty your memory.
There may be something wrong on your computer if you can’t find any problem on your end, on your service provider’s end, and you have passed the broadband speed test with flying colors. Spyware, malware, or a virus that are tying up your computer can be the cause of slow Internet connection. Your broadband Internet will run like dial-up if some viruses use up your computer memory.
Have your computer looked over by a professional for any hardware problems if you still can’t find the problem. It would be sensible to run a broadband speed test once in a while to make sure everything is up and running. You should also make it a priority to keep your computer protected from viruses and spyware.
