One of the worst decisions that I ever made in my life was to get AOL
broadband Internet. I used to have AOL as my Internet service provider
in those days when everything was dial up. This happened because I did
not know any better back then, and I thought that that was as fast as
it was supposed to go. Well, AOL dialup is not really bad, but AOL
broadband Internet was really a horrible service.
AOL broadband Internet would often crash and it would also cause my computer to crash just as often. I am not joking when I say that there was no way to download a little single file without completely crashing out.
Well, maybe I am exaggerating a little bit. Ever since I switched to Comcast high speed, I did not experience a fraction of the problems which used to plague me when I had AOL broadband Internet.
You see, the problem is that AOL used to be the only Internet service provider in town. Of course, there were a few small high speed Internet service providers opening up around town. However, none of them served the area that I was living in.
I find it amusing to recall that you could use someone else's service only a block down, but in my house I had no choice but to get AOL broadband Internet. I was quite resentful, even if I did not understand how the entire Internet service provider business works. I guess anybody would be resentful if they were stuck with AOL broadband Internet.
Anyway, hassle of quiting my AOL broadband Internet service was the worst part about having it. The telephone operators for AOL may have been actually instructed to do everything they can to prevent their customers from quitting. They will offer you free service, and they will try to explain to you all of the features of their service to convince you to change your mind.
They will also not take no for an answer. I spent about an hour on the phone, trying to quit AOL broadband Internet, constantly telling the operators that I was not interested. It was really one of the most frustrating moments of my life.
